Electronic recycling and reuse made easy.
Overview
This project involved creating a technological solution to the growing e-waste problem and presenting a prototype and business proposal. Individually we came up with our own ideas and potential solutions and, as a group, decided which ideas we wanted to incorporate into our final solution.
The Goal
Our goal was to devise a simple method for individuals to get rid of their outdated electronic gadgets and become informed about electronic waste, which is escalating due to swift technological progress. Working in tandem, we put forth a prospective business idea and built a preliminary website and mobile app, targeting young adults in order to heighten consciousness, enlighten, and offer a minor remedy to the expanding e-waste predicament.
Onboarding
Onboarding introduces the users to the application, highlighting the main features of the application, which include the News, Marketplace, e-waste pickup service and the recycling centre finder.

Marketplace
Old and used pieces of technology can be sold and traded on the marketplace giving new life to old devices and allowing users to make money at the same time.
E-waste Pickup
If devices must be thrown out, the eCycle pickup service will let users contact local recycling pickup services to come and pick up their old devices. Users can select which devices they want to recycle, add pickup notes and instructions for drivers and schedule times for pickup.
Find recycling facilities
Recycling facilities can be located using the recycling centre finder, so users can easily find a place to recycle their old devices if selling them or having them picked up is not an option.
Outcomes &
Retrospective
This project taught me the practical application of technology to address real-world issues and establish an organization focused on solving these problems. We had the opportunity to meet with a mentor experienced in building businesses and websites that tackle real challenges, where he provided valuable insights into designing a solution for the escalating e-waste crisis.
The project's focus on building a website and mobile application prototype necessitated a greater emphasis on UI design. This allowed me to gain hands-on experience with design tools like Adobe XD and Figma, enabling me to critically evaluate and enhance my design skills.
